At the ELA the students in year 10 and 11 study EDEXCEL GCSE History. They will look at four main areas of study:
Henry VIII and his Ministers - This is a British depth study which looks at a short period of time and analyses the significance of events that took place. This makes up 20% of the final qualification.
Crime and Punishment in Britain - This is Thematic study which looks at the change and continuity over a longer period of time and also includes a Historical Environment study which focuses on Policing in Whitechapel. This makes up 30% of the final qualification.
The American West - A period study looking at a time period of 50 years and focusing on important developments during this time. This makes up 20% of the final qualification.
The USA 1954-1975: Conflict at home and abroad - This final study in year 11 is a Modern Depth study and will look at a range of social, political, economic and cultural changes and how these link. This makes up 30% of the final qualification.
The students will sit three external examinations at the end of year 11 to complete this course.
