English Heritage advertised an opportunity, inviting KS4 and 5 students across the nation, to generate artwork for a competition in response to the Walmer Castle gardens. ELA students visited the castle and generated primary research, in support of their development and have produced numerous media tests, which have incorporated ideas inspired by the castle and its gardens.

The artwork has been planned and developed over a period of two terms, during their allocated Art lesson. As well as being entered into the English Heritage competition, the students’ developmental work and final outcome will also be entered for a Bronze Arts Award qualification in Art.

The students involved have worked hard to produce a unique outcome that reflects the gardens at the castle. They were excited by the opportunity to showcase their artwork for the first time. One of our learners, Sonny Butson has received a Highly Commended for his entry.
